Opening ceremony for the Ligligkot guest houses.

Back in 2016…

we were inspired to start construction and guest program project in the village of Ligligkot, Gorkha after the completion of Rainaskot. We were introduced to the area and the villagers by good friend of Sangsangai and native son of area, Dr. Bal Krishna Sharma and his wife Radha Sharma, now residing in North Carolina.

We were not able to undertake the project so they picked up the baton and built 7 guest cottages in Ligligkot through their own fundraising efforts. These cottages will be operated by the community for the benefit of the whole village.

Sangsangai’s Role in the project

Dr. Sharma reached out to Sangsangai as he neared the end of the project, with a request to provide furnishings for the guest houses. It was an enthusiastic yes from all of us on the board and we sent $4000 to support the effort. Part of this donation was provided by the Nepalese Association of Indiana.

We are in the process of raising funds now for an additional $2500 for Ligligkot. Of that, $1000 is for the remaining furnishings,  with an additional $1500 for micro-enterprise training once Covid eases and travel resumes. This will be an ideal time for the villagers of Ligligkot to launch, just as Nepalis are eager to travel in their country after long months of restriction.
